Mothers and Birthdays in May

I know this is a little behind, but I wanted to post some of what we did in May. May was both Mother's Day and my mother-in-law's birthday. Lauri had never been to Tucanos so I secretly submitted her name for a free birthday meal. David and I picked her up one Saturday for lunch and surprised her with a lunch at Tucanos. Plus since it was the Saturday before Mother's Day she got a flower and some chocolate covered strawberries - part of the Tucano's Mother's Day Special. The meal was delicious as always. We were glad that Lauri loved her meal! Here is a picture of David and his mom in front of the restaurant.

Then the next day was Mother's Day. David was so sweet and bought me these gorgeous roses as a "future" Mother's Day present. He originally kept claiming that he wasn't going to get me anything because I am not a real mother so I was very happy/surprised when he gave me these. Plus we had just been grocery shopping the day before and I had commented that I really like two-toned roses. I guess he does listen to me more than I think!

We celebrated Mother's Day by going to David's parents house and making dinner for David's mom. Since we are not in Texas to spend the day with my mom, we had some beautiful flowers delivered to my parents house for my mom. I have to say that I felt very grateful this Mother's Day. Not only do I have the best mother, I also have the best mother-in-law! They are both such great examples to me and I hope I can be like both of them and raise my children as they have both raised theirs.

Back to cooking dinner - things turned out great. We made the Dynes baked chicken that I have grew up eating every Sunday at my parents house. We also made Pioneer Woman's "Delicious Creamy Mashed Potatoes." And let me tell you they were creamy and delicious. Not to brag about myself but possibly the best mashed potatoes I have ever had. The secret ingredient: an entire package of cream cheese. Yum. David's sister also made a delicious spinach/blue cheese/bacon salad and his brother bought some very good Texas toast. Here is David with his mom. How cute.

The next weekend, we celebrated Lauri's birthday with the whole family. We decided to go up to Salt Lake and have the celebration at Daniel and Heather's apartment. Lauri wanted to go to the Salt Lake cemetery where all the LDS prophets are buried. It was a gorgeous day so it was nice to be outside and walking around. Here is David again with his Mom in front of President Grant's grave. (President Grant is one of David's favorite prophets so that is why they took the picture here.)

After the cemetery and after walking around the Gateway Mall, we all went to dinner at Sizzlers. I will say that we went to Sizzlers at Lauri's request, and I was a bit skeptical. I imagined the food to taste like Golden Corral and for every there to be old. Well, everyone there was old except for us but the food was actually good. I got a teriyaki steak that was delicious! The price, however, was not. Warning for anyone going to Sizzlers. They are a bit pricey and charge you for everything without telling you.

All in all it was a fun two weekends in May spent with family. Coming up - another birthday and more family time! So many holidays and birthdays in May for the Driggs family!
