Caribbean Adventure

I feel so lucky to have the job that I have. I absolutely love it. I love what I do and I love the people I work with. My bosses are amazing. In December, my bosses asked me if David and I would like to go to St. Kitts in the Caribbean. I thought they were kidding and I thought St. Kitts was made up. Turns out, one of our suppliers at work gives out all expense paid trips for certain dollar amounts the company spends. My bosses weren't going to go so they offered it me and David and another coworker and his wife. It was an amazing trip! All expenses paid - airfare, hotel, and food for seven days!

Here we are arriving in St. Kitts.

The view from the balcony in our hotel room. We stayed at the Marrriot Resort on the island.

A dinner with live entertainment was put on the first night out on the terrace so we dressed nice for that.

St. Kitts is actually St. Christopher. Christopher Columbus landed on this island on his second trip to the Americas. This boat is a 50% replica of his ship. Pretty small!

Our first morning on St. Kitts. We ate breakfast in this cute little cafe every morning. It was delicious!

Please excuse the fact that I wore this hat basically every day. The island was very windy and I needed to keep my hair down!

The hotel was massive! It was definitely the biggest building on the entire island!

Most people chose to lay around the pool all day. David and I chose the beach. I figure everyone else chose the pool because we could get unlimited drinks during the trip and the pool had a swim up bar. Why sit by a pool, though, when the ocean is a few feet away!

The hotel let you use snorkeling gear, so David used it a couple of times. He is obsessed with snorkeling! I went out with him, too, a few times. The hotel put all these rocks out in the ocean that you can snorkel over to. Over the years coral has grown on the rocks and lots of fish live out there. It was really cool.

We ate at the seafood restaurant the next night. The hotel had about five different restaurants that you could choose to eat at. This was my first time having lobster!

So we are dumb and fried ourselves the first day. My legs don't usually tan so I did not put sunscreen on my calves. Big mistake. I could hardly walk! My legs were fried! It was horrible! So on Tuesday we stayed under the cabana things and out of the sun.

On Wednesday, we left the hotel to do a zip line adventure. These are some photos of houses and things on the island.

The zip line was fun. You got to do about 5 lines through the rain forest.

Just waiting for the bus to come back and get us after doing the zip line. The zip line place was in this really old building and had all these cool stone structures around it.

Back to the hotel. The Marriott is on the Atlantic side of the island. We wanted to see the Caribbean side so we walked across the island - the island is tiny - it only took about ten minutes. The Atlantic side had big waves constantly crashing. The Caribbean side was the complete opposite. It looked like a lake! Completely still.

This was the view from out hotel room each morning. Gorgeous!

On Thursday we signed up to do a catamaran cruise to go snorkeling and to go over to the other island - Nevis. St. Kitts and Nevis are one country together.

Views of St. Kitts.

The Four Seasons Resort on Nevis. Nevis was tiny! The Four Seasons was basically the only thing on the entire island.

There is Nevis.

This reminded me of the show Lost. (I know it was filmed on Hawaii, but this reminded me of it!)

Goodbye Nevis!

On the boat ride back, everyone got really drunk because the drinks were free. Everyone but me and David and my coworker and his wife who came as well. At one point, the drunken dancing people forced me to dance in their train. David was so kind to capture a photo.

We thought this ship looked really cool.

Back on St. Kitts. This is the capital city where the marina was located.

This is the hallway in the Marriott hotel. It was really cool. The top is just open to outside so you have a constant breeze blowing through the hallways. David's hair was a little wild from the catamaran cruise!

The company that sent us to St. Kitts hosted another banquet with live entertainment this night so we had dinner in the ballroom of the hotel.

Our last full day in St. Kitts. This breakfast was super good! The waitress thought I was crazy for wanted the egg sandwich and toast on the side. When I asked for a side of toast, she stopped and said, "No, the sandwich is made of bread." I said, "I know. I really like bread and want toast on the side." The workers also thought we were crazy because we never asked for coffee. And they thought we were crazy because one day we ordered a roast beef sandwich for lunch and did not want it warmed up. Yeah, the workers questioned our food choices quite a bit! haha

That smoothie was the best smoothie I have ever had. mmmmmm.

Our final day just relaxing at the beach.

This was the view from the elevator. So pretty!

For our final night, we wanted to do something fancy. The hotel had put a travel magazine in our hotel room and it showed a brand new restaurant called Carambola that had just opened on the island. We took a taxi over to the restaurant. It was gorgeous! Here is our appetizer of salmon.

All the walls of the restaurant were these giant doors that they had open. The restaurant was right on the beach so there was a nice cool ocean breeze that blew in. I loved it!

My yummy dinner of steak and a mix of normal mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes. It was amazing.

David ordered the duck served over gnocchi. That was my first time to try duck. It was delicious as well.

In the Caribbean, they apparently do not care about time. Every restaurant we ate at, the waiters took forever! I figure it must just be the Caribbean lifestyle. I am so used to America and how everything is so go go go. Here they just don't care and move at a slow pace. It was nice to have a week to relax and slow down.

Saturday morning leaving the island. :(

Goodbye to St. Kitts!
