Is it worth it???

I have been putting together a list of what items we will need to buy when we move in to our new house. I would really like to get a good vacuum. We currently have a vacuum that David's mom gave us - I think someone gave it to her. It is a rather basic, cheap vacuum that smells like throw up whenever you vacuum with it. Needless to say, it is not that great at picking up dirt. I have never actually used a Dyson before but I have played with them in the store. Having a Dyson would definitely make vacuuming a lot more fun with the cool ball technology but is it worth that high price? Does anyone out there have a Dyson or has anyone ever actually vacuumed with a Dyson? If so, what model? Otherwise, does anyone have a great vacuum that is not a Dyson that they love? Let me know your opinions on what the best vacuum to get is!!

my family has the DC28 Animal and it is freaking amazing. literally amazing. bagless, picks up everything, never smells weird, super flexible, and lasts forever. buy one at costco (that's what we did) because they have an amazing guarantee adn the prices are cheaper. I'm sure any of the dyson models are great. we just got that one for pet hair...

We have central vac, so I have limited ecperience with Dyson... but let me tell you, as I did yesterday, any company that makes the air blade can certainly make a terrific vacuum.... Plus, the ball looks so fun!

or sure whatever you buy go to costco. great warantees. i was considering a dyson, but i just couldn't get over the price. if you watch it over the next months, i am sure it will go on sale around christmas time.

if not, we have a bagless, Bissell with the option to pop-out just the front and carry it for vacuuming stairs. it was $200, i think. it works well. so well it ripped out a section of my carpet (the spot where allie had kindly started pulling apart when she saw a loose thread). so it gets it clean. i don't know how it compares to a dyson, though.

If you can afford a Dyson I would go for it now. I've heard great things about them and think it may save you in the long run..

How much more is it to put in central vac? It's awesome having that and it might be cheaper in the long run since you don't have to keep buying vacuums. We had it growing up and I thought it was great.

We have a Dyson, from Costco, and I've loved it. It picks up SOOOOOO much dirt. I'd definitely recommend it.

Here's my friend's blog post she made after buying a Dyson for the first time.

We have a Roomba. And a Scooba. THEY VACUUM FOR YOU. They are amazing. And they leave the carpet all pretty and fluffy looking. Dustin has the one that you can program to clean while you are at work at the same time every day. I just use it when I want though. We turned off the scheduler.

We've not had much carpet during our rental years and when we moved into our house it came with a central vac. I'd be tempted by the Dyson if I didn't LOVE my central vac. I'm with Carlee--find out the cost to have a central vac put in. Ours works so well, comes with loads of attachments, and you empty the canister once every three months. You can even have a duct put in your baseboard in the kitchen so you just sweep the dirt right in--no more dust pan!

I love using Lori's Hoover Wind Tunnel, bagless. It picks up cat hair! and is easy to switch back and forth between vacuum and tools to get in corners and window shades. I thought it worked as well as the Ormes Dyson but it doesn't cost as much. You do want something that will last a long while.

I love Oreck vacuums--they're about as pricey as Dyson's, but so awesome. They look pretty plain, but they pick up dirt like nothing else and seriously weigh like 3 lbs. Plus, they last FOREVER!
